Cliff Almond was brought to my attention a while back and i must say that this guy can play.Definitely and underated player like Joel Rosenblatt.I picked up Bunny Brunel's "For You to Play" cd and Cliff plays some tasty stuff as well does Terri Lynn Carrington.Do any of you guys have any recordings to recommend w/Cliff and did MD ever do a story on him?

I've got a video of Michel Camilo with Cliff Almond and Michael Bowie from about 1989 I think. Cliff looks like the Milky Bar Kid! (Do you guys have him in the US?!) and plays really nicely, but EXACTLY like Rosenblatt/Weckl did at that time. I know that Joel & Dave roomed and practiced together for a while, hence their similarities, but I don't know how Cliff fits in.

"..but I don't know how Cliff fits in..."
...I'm not fam w Cliff's playing, but i'm willing to gander a guess of "lotsa hours listening to Weckl" [much like many of us ]...
I just missed TLC w the Herbie Hancock trio here last Sun at jazz fest, & it was FREE

Cliff Almond! Amazing player... similiar to Weckl and Rosenblatt but definitly has his own thing happening. He is extremely clean and crisp... a much better fit for the Michel Camilo trio than Horacio is IMHO.
Dazzler, is that concert from Munich?
I have quite a few bootleg audio shows of Cliff with Michel. But not much video footage... Tombo gave me a copy of the Munich concert and it rocks!
He is playing in Japan mostly with Anthony Jackson and a famous Japanese singer/ pop star. I think he is way under rated. He's in the April 91' Modern Drummer... up and coming.
I think that MD should actually do a Michel Camilo feature on his perspective of drummers... he always plays with amazing talent!

Cliff can be heard on these wonderful CDs by Michel Camilo:
On the other hand
Thru my eyes
One more once
Two Much soundtrack
The Munich show is from 1991 and features a quintet (dunno if it's the one you got Dazzler?). Cliff has a real baby face on this one, he was 22 but looks like 12...
I read somewhere that Weckl himself recommended Cliff to Michel when he left. Cliff kept on chasing Weckl for advices, and when Dave finally heard the youngster, he was amazed!
